After banging on about pastel hair a couple of weeks ago, I finally got around yesterday to actually trying it out for myself. I've had the dye sitting in my room for ages now but had neither the time nor the inclination to do it.
I decided on slices rather than the dip-dye effect so the colour would peek through in a more subtle way. Despite adding a generous dollop of conditioner to the dye mix to tone down the original bright pink colour, it still came out rather strong, so when I washed the colour out I shampooed it four times. It's still a bit brighter than I would like, but "crazy" colours apparently fade more quickly than your average hair dye, so I should get the desired pastel look in a few days after I've washed it some more.
You may also notice that my hair is a bit shorter now too. I was fed up with having thin ends and wanted it a bit shorter for spring so I ended up cutting about three inches off the back and a bit off the front so it's now a blunt, one length bob. It's a teeny bit wonky because I did it myself, and it's quite hard to cut the back of your own hair, but it's barely noticeable and I'll get it tidied up at the hairdressers when I get home for the Easter holidays.
