Guest post: Music of the month

Hi guyzzz,

Today is a first for The Fish Tank, it's the first ever 'guest post'!

If you're a long-time reader, you may vaguely remember a quite sporadic and now mainly defunct feature I did called "Music of the Month". (If you're interested, you can find the old posts here, mixed in with a load of other nonsense I've tagged with 'Music'.) Anywho, the feature kind of died because a) my tastes are pretty mainstream so I'd not exactly be making any ground-breaking recommendations, and b) I kind of just forgot about it. But now it's back, with the help of the lovely James, who writes the music blog Pineapple Toast. Seriously, go check it out. You might learn something new. He's one of those intensely into his music types, so far better qualified to ramble about choons and suggest stuff than I am. So enough of my ramblings, and over to James.

Well hello lovely followers and readers of 'The Fish Tank.'

Lucky for me, but not quite so lucky for you, I have been invited to contribute a post for a 'not-so-monthly' music of the month slot.

Yay for me!

Although, naturally I am in a bit of a quandry as to what to write about because I'm no longer writing to an audience of about 6 people who are constantly on the lookout for the next criminally unheard of band that, if there was any justice in the world will be huge, but will probably be working in a record store in about 2 years. But, who am I am I to assume that just because your main interest is fashion you're not totally into your music, I mean after all, most 'trendies' span the genres and don't just specialise in one field.

But, that's enough paranoid, 'underground man'-esque rambling. Let's get down to buisiness and talk sexy beats.

Firstly, I will recommend 'Uffie.' Uffie, or Anna-Catherine Hartley, is a US born, Hong Kong raised and Paris based MC type and general queen of Electro-rap who is signed to the coolest and most amazing record label ever, Ed Banger Records. Is that a new genre I made up? Maybe, but that's my style, I'm a renegade. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already heard of her because she has been around for AGES. So long in fact, that her latest album 'Sex, Jeans and Denim Jeans' which was released on 15th June, was supposed to come out at least 2 years ago, but life and general stuff just got in the way.

However, I can say without hesitation, that it was worth the wait. Included on the album are the familiar tracks 'Pop The Glock' (a personal fave) and 'First Love,' but new tracks 'MCs can kiss' and 'ADD SUV' are definitely winners. In fact, it's all pretty ace. But, did we really expect anything else with the help of Pharrell, Mr Oizo, SebastiAn, Feadz and Mirwais?

Get it now, or at least listen to it all for free over on MySpace. Yes, MySpace is still around!

Oh, and one more thing, if anyone mentions Ke$ha, I will actually hunt you down and hurt you!

Editor's note (i.e. me, Fritha): The fashion in this video is pretty cool too.

My other ace release of the week / last week is 'Before Today' by 'Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti.' It is just incredible. If I can just leave one impression on you, it would be that you have to at least listen to 'Round And Round.' This track is just so perfect, a nice jazzy, funky and 70's vibe that I could just listen to forever. But don't forget about the other 11 tracks. A nice mix of upbeat and chilled out that is just so amazing.

Can you tell that I like it?

Well, thanks for having me guys and gals. I hope I haven't put any first timers off 'The Fish Tank,' I won't normally be here and take full responsibilty for being not very good.

Au revoir

x

So there we go, The Fish Tank's first guest post. If you liked what you read then hop on over to Pineapple Toast, where the writing is far better than anything you'll ever read on here, as evidenced by the post above!

  6. This is great! Now I have two of my favourite things i.e. women's clothes and James under one cyber roof!

Me thinks James should possibly tell us what he wore whilst listening to all this music...

Anyways looking forward to more of these!
