First up is Gem Fatale. I love Gem's blog because like me she's living on a student budget in England, so she's really relatable. She's stylish, speaks her mind and does some great DIYs. I've also had the pleasure of meeting her in person and she's both hilarious and really really lovely.
Less of me babbling on, here's Gem's interview:
How would you describe your blog?
My blog is a little time capsule of my outfits, tips and chit chat, which I can hopefully show my grandchildren one day as proof I was young and hip (ish) once!
What are the key elements of your style?
I like to dress in opposites, so if I'm wearing a pretty dress, I'll mess it up a bit with some desert boots of DM's or my gross Dusky Ledoux tooth necklace. Comfort is also a major thing for me - body con is no friend of mine!
Who, or what, are your style inspirations?
I mainly get inspiration from blogs or people I see out and about.
Where are your favourite places to shop?
I didn't really realise I like H&M that much until I looked at my wardrobe the other day and realised 70% of it is from there! So I guess I'd have to say that H&M is up there! But charity shops are my main favourite place to shop, you never know what you'll find!
Do you have a favourite designer? Do they influence your style?
Well, Luella is the only designer whose collections made my heart beat faster every single season. I really hope she returns to fashion soon! There aren't really any other designers that influence me much. I do take outfit inspiration from the catwalk, but I don't really have favourite designers at the moment.
What's on your fashion wishlist at the moment?
Well I'm going on holiday to Madrid and Paris at the end of the month and it's going to be boiling, so I'm really on the look out for things I can look stylish in but without turning into a sweaty betty or getting awkward tanlines. It's so hard to express yourself, style-wise when the weather is so hot!
What trends are you trying out this summer?
I really am enjoying my lovely new clogs. I don't like clogs that look too cloggy, if that makes sense (like the Chanel ones), but mine look like sandals and look so cute with little socks. 'Geek chic' is the never-ending trend I follow (I guess it's more of a lifestyle, actually!) so I like to take new trends and find a way to geekify them!
You study fashion promotion at the moment so I presume you want to go on to work in fashion. What would be your dream job in the fashion industry?
I had so much fun putting my magazine 'Gem Says' together for a recent uni project, that I would definitely consider trying to make that work as a career. The feedback from the readers of my blog was so amazing, and really inspired me to consider trying to make the magazine more than just a one-off. I definitely want to have a career in journalism, so whether that means making my own magazine, or writing for someone else's, I'll have to wait and see!
Gem is amazing at nail art. Make sure you check through her blog for loads more designs!
I love your Tuesday Tips feature. Is there a quick style tip you could give my readers?
Hmmm... I'm not sure if this is an obvious one or not, but if you're looking for something specific in charity shops, always ask the person at the till if they have any out the back! I've found a few granny jumpers this way! If you don't ask, you don't get!
What is the best thing about blogging in your opinion?
I love the sense of community blogging provides. Through blog posts and comments, you get to know other people to a certain extent, and I really enjoy letting readers of my blog get to know me too. Blogs provide a platform to speak your mind about fashion or life in general, and it's great to have a community of readers that will back up your point or debate it a bit!
What are your favourite blogs?
Besides the Fuck Yeah Pretty Nails Tumblr, at the moment I really like LLYMLRS and Cali Vintage for the days I need some outfit inspiration. I also like Flying Saucer and Little Blog of Horrors because they chat about all sorts (like my own blog) and just seem like really down-to-earth lovely girls. I like to read blogs about 'real' girls (sorry, such a cringe phrase!). I'm not a fan of the photoshopped 'Here's 25 pictures of me in my $500 dress posing with my Latte - don't you wish you could be me?' type blogs.
Thank you Gem for answering all my questions and being my first Featured Blogger!
