Viennese Streetwalker?

Strange title I know, but I got so many dirty looks in this outfit, I may as well have been standing on a street corner, touting for customers. I know Austria is "conservative" but seriously guyz, how is this in any way a weird/offensive outfit? When I was waiting for my train home I saw a woman on the platform opposite openly staring and pointing at me with her boyfriend and laughing. Apparently pink and orange leopard print harems are fine in Vienna, but not a skirt and tights. I normally don't get too bothered if people give my outfits the side eye, and I was feeling quite confident on Monday when I wore this, but by the end of the day I felt *this* big and just wanted to get home as quickly as possible and hide away. Stupid Austrians.

New Look shirt, Asos skirt and socks, Primark tights, Kickers boots.

Kickers very kindly sent me these awesome military-esque boots from their Spring collection. I love how they can be worn in loads of different ways depending on how you tie the laces. I folded them down here to show off the socks, you can't really see in the pictures but they're beige-y lurex, amazing. I want them in loads of different colours now, so if anyone sees any fun-coloured lurex socks for sale let me know!

I think I'm going to do outfit posts in this picture format from now on. I like bigger pictures, but there's no point with the crappy camera I'm using at the minute. Bigger pictures will return when I move back to the UK and am reunited with my SLR.

But just to give you a little treat laugh at my expense, here's a gif of me looking like a fool dancing along to music whilst I was taking my outfit pictures.

  1. I think there are some places where showing leg in any way will get you strange looks...It's not like you're dressed revealingly, and I can safely say I've never seen a streetwalker wear an oversized denim shirt.
    Nice dancing btw.

  2. There's nothing wrong with what you're wearing! I've never been to Austria but when I was on a French Exchange, I noticed that the people in the school I was at were a bit.. backwards with fashion.
I love those tights! I keep meaning to get some like that but I'm worried they'll rip straight away because they're from Primark!

  3. Atleast being in another country you can sort of appreciate they may not understand British fashions, I was in tesco once and had an elderly lady complaining VERY loudly to her son about my outfit x

  4. There's nothing wrong with your outfit, but if Austria's anything like Luxembourg then they don't take kindly to clothes that aren't jeans and plain tops! I didn't feel comfortable wearing tights etc until I came to uni in the UK, because of the way people back home react to anything that isn't considered 'normal'! You look lovely, haters gon' hate...

  6. I think you look great and it's such a shame that you were made to feel that way. Even if people don't appreciate what you're wearing they should at least have the decency to keep it to themselves!

    ps. love your dancing :)

  7. awh just ignore them, wear what you want! When I lived in Argentina I used to get laughed at for wearing anything other than jeans and a tshirt- A standard 'bad hair day' slouchy beanie hat was loltastic by their standards. The worst part? they thought those horrible split toe/cow hoof trainers were the height of fashion. VOMMM x

  12. Hahaha! Glad I'm not the only one who dances around while taking outfit photos. But you are a MUCH better dancer than I am :P

Fritha, I find it so weird that people thought this outfit was weird. The only thing I can POSSIBLY thing of is that maybe they didn't see your skirt, and they thought you were just wearing a shirt and tights?? So strange. But fashionistas just have to deal with odd looks sometimes!

So where have you been to get so much strange views??? I'm Austrian, and I'm actually studying at Vienna, but have never ever got that many strange looks - not even when wearing skirts much shorter or blouses much more sheer than yours :D

think you must've been in the wrong area- so don't worry, you look great!

  16. Whaaaat?! Dude, you look gorgeous! Some europeans are funny folk. Plus, they have no shame in staring, pointing etc - that happened to me a few times on our travels because of my tattoos. People in the uk tend to look away sharpish if you catch them staring... but that didnt seem to be the case across the pond. Anyways, youre a total stunner miss and that GIF made me LOL! xx

  17. Whaaaat the hell?! But I can actually relate to that, it sounds a bit like Luxembourg, them being backwards in fashion, I mean. If you wear something like pink tights or pink doc martens or I dunno, anything 'different', you will be stared at. In my school whenever I walked down the hallway I could feel the gazes flicking down my legs with a sneer already half formed on their faces. I think I've managed to just think 'Screw 'em' now. I think you look LOVELY and I adore that denim shirt <3 xx
