AW11 key pieces hitlist

Ok, so I took down the previous post like this that I did earlier in the week cause it was crappy because of my rubbish internet access whilst on holiday. So here it is again, but a bit better I hope! If you don't know what I'm doing, basically I'm completely overthinking my AW wardrobe by dissecting the catwalk shows (parts one and two here,) to decided the general direction I want to go in clothing-wise and now this is my "key pieces" identification post. All a bit OTT perhaps, but it helps me to buy what I'm actually going to wear and not waste (too much) money. I'm not going to 100% buy all of these things here, but they are a good representation of the kinds of items I'm likely to be buying over the autumn.

L-R in rows: River Island jumper, Underground creepers, Topshop quilted jacket, Boohoo cable knit jumper, River Island shearling cardigan, New Look silver jumper, Pamela Mann lurex tights, Office chelsea boots, Topshop shorts, River Island fur coat.

Baggy, textured knits
I'm looking for the perfect long, loose, textured jumper, but it's proving quite hard to find. There are loads of nice knits in the shops at the moment but they all seem to be cropped! I like the RI jumper (top left), but it's £38, which is a bit too pricey for me! I'm going to scour my local charity shops next week and hope something turns up there.

Metallics
I don't think the block metallic leather tops that were on the runways and are popping up in a few shops are really that workable. It must be quite hard to move in them surely? I want something a bit less in-your-face, lest I look like I'm wrapped in tinfoil. I've been looking for the silver knit jumper from New Look in stores, but I haven't found it. Might have to order online, but I hate paying P&P! All online shops need to be like ASOS with free shipping and returns! Metallic shorts are all over the place too and look quite fun and easy to tone down with a jumper and thick tights in the day, or dress up with heels at night. Saying that, I have about a million pairs of shorts already, so I'm not sure I can justify another pair! I'm going to see if you can get metallic fabric paint, and if so, I spy a DIY! As I think I've said before in my original AW catwalk inspiration posts, lurex tights would be the easiest way to work this trend into my wardrobe (and cheapest!) I'm trying to find some silver lurex ankle socks, but I'm not having much luck at the moment. Has anyone seen any?

Mannish shoes
Creepers or Chelsea boots? Or both? (I wish...) I think shoes are the easiest way to work the "mannish" trend that's apparently going to be around this season. I don't have the right "boyish" body shape to pull off a mannish silhouette, so I'll stick to the footwear.

Textured outerwear
I'd love a really shaggy (fake) fur coat for winter and I also love the quilted jackets that are everywhere. They're more of a "created by the highstreet" trend than a designer led one (although they were seen at Chanel,) which I don't normally go for, but I'm being sucked into this one. This Topshop one is perfect, but it's £55 which is silly money for what it is. The RI sheepskin waterfall cardigan (in the middle) is really unusual. It has knitted sleeves, so with the two sides of the leather it's got three different textures. Because I wear a lot of black I worry that it can look a bit boring, so I'm loving the "textures" that are "in" this season as they'll help keep things interesting.

Right, I have rambled for far too long and probably sound like a bit of an idiot now so I'll stop. What are you going to be buying for autumn? Let me know!

  1. Love this! :-) I have myself a quilted jacket of course, I recommend looking on ebay where they are about half the price! I too am trying to decide between creepers and chelsea boots, I can't decide if either will go with my staple 60s dresses!

I'm also on the hunt for some staple plain hoodies to wear under my jacket and cardigans for my other jacket.

I really want this textured tweed jacket from very with a faux fur collar which is reduced, I can't decide whether I should do this, or buy a duffle coat with a hood?

Shoes wise, I'm also considering DM shoes with tights and socks to attempt to keep my feet warm this winter!

I have invested in a woolly cable knit hat, which is already getting a lot of wear.

  11. I have to recommend a gorgeous pair of mannish shoes that i bagged in Primark of all places, with a gorgeous heritage tweed material insert for only £15!! So comfortable and much sturdier than most high street options!

Loving the wool cover ups and definitely agree that second hand is the way to go. i will also however be ordering some wool cover ups as autumn/winter accessories for my phone and ipod from http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nells-Knitting/159597954124550 to add a bit of personal style and fun, such a cute little idea a friend bought to my attention x

  16. Creepers and chealsea boots are so great, I want a pair of each! My only worry is that suede creepers won't last too well in Glasgow's rain-a-thon, and chelsea boots don't have much grip on the sole. Hmmm.
