DIY Draped Japanese Dress

Drape Drape pattern Japanese DIY drapey low back dress

I bought Drape Drape months ago, and finally got round to making my first garment up from it a few weeks ago. This is no.6, the 'low-back gather drape dress'.

The crazy pattern piece. Image via Amazon.

I didn't realise how enormous the pattern piece for this would turn out! it took up my whole living room floor (in my admittedly tiny flat), and looked a bit like a squashed bat once it was cut out. Other than that it was actually pretty easy to sew. The instructions look a bit crazy but are actually really easy to follow. My binding is a bit dodgy in places, but this is my first completed project using jersey (and you can't really tell because it's all black!)

Its's a bit boring from the front, but I think that despite the dramatic back neckline it could be quite versatile. I might even wear it to work with a top underneath.

I'm definitely looking forward to making more of the Drape Drape patterns now. The interesting shapes made up in monochrome colours really appeals to my sense of style!

  1. This turned out great! I've always wanted to try these patterns and step out my comfort zone a little. I'll have to put it onto my list of things to buy :)
